What are your all's thoughts on boost controllers for the SRT4?

I don't want the BS that SRTforums posts... I really want to know what you guys think about them.

Let me give you all a little bit of background:

I currently have a s2 wga that is set PERFECTLY in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Spiking 18, holding somewhere around 14... Except in 4th gear. 4th gear goes crazy, up above 20 psi. I was thinking that maybe I don't drive around enough WOT in 4th gear, as 3rd and 2nd both did this when I first hooked up the s2 wga on the s0 pcm. However, I don't really want to go to jail, so I was wondering if you guys thought maybe a boost controller would help solve this problem. Maybe if I take the stock pcm's control away from the boost, this would help solve the issue.

What do you guys think?

If you take control away from the ecu you are going to have PTB. If you can learn to drive with it and keep your foot out of it to keep the boost below 5 psi unless floored, yes a MBC would help.

I'm currently running an AGP WGA with no boost controller. The vacuum line is ran directly to the turbo port like AGP recommends. I DID have to relearn the part throttle take-offs to avoid PTB, but after 2 months now, I hardly notice. You do have to get used to almost everybody pulling you at stop lights/signs. But again, why let the genie out of the bottle until you need to, right ??

I second that one brother. I drive around like a little old lady till I need to rip the tires loose through 4th gear.

I have a boost controller, one of the bigges mistakes i made with this car, should have gone with an agp from the get-go

i had a greddy profec b spec 2 and didn't like it. so i sold it and went with the agp wga. there is a toledo guy tho that has the same ebc that i sold, a spring mod, and a set of drag radials and has broken into the 12's. i think he spent $200 total?

Correction Tom. I do not have the spec 2. I have the original profec b which is no longer made and only available through ebay or outlets of that nature. Carry on.

is it easy to use? i didn't like the one i had. too complicated and where i mounted it made it impossible to read.

Super easy. There is a gain knob and a how much boost do you want knob. Finally there is a button for high and low boost settings. Carry on.

lord, the spec 2 had like gain, set gain, and something else. along with high and low boost. and everything was in %'s so it made it super hard to figure out. im sure i could have figured it out if i didn't have to have the door open, kick my legs out the door, and lean way over just to read the display. it got old, so i ditched it.

i used to run a mbc...i took it off because certain people where not running them. I have my turbo connect right to the wga...ever since the boost hits faster and harder :w00t:

Sad day..

I broke down an ordered the AGP unit.

Thought I was gonna get a sweet trade straight s2 for agp, but he backed out on me. :raisehand

I will post results soon. Oh, and another sad day... I put my winter shoes on this evening.... 2nd gear is now pretty useless.

I had a AGP WGA and Turbo XS HPBC on my car before I decided to sell it, now that I'm back to stock and not selling my car... I am glad I'm no longer getting PTB. I hated it most of the time even after I learned to deal with it. I wouldn't go back to it after feeling stock throttle before and after.

I use the Hallman MBC with the in cabin control. It is awesome. Turn boost up and down when you want. very accurate. one complete turn of nob = 1 psi.

the only thing i really hated about having the agp wga was that you couldn't just barely get on it. you had to either putt around or tear ass.

I've got a hallman mbc with a spring mod. I really wish there was no such thing as PTB, i HATE it. I took it off for the winter to be stock but I'm ready to put it back on. Its either putt around or WOT. I wish FBM would get that exhaust manifold out.

Yeah, that's PTB.

Yeah, that's PTB.

yes, yes it is. im just saying for the sake of the motor its not wise to boost more than 5-6 psi at partial throttle. stage 3 will cure that. ;)
